چکیده

This article is composed of a commentary about the state Integrated, Coordinated, Open, and Networked (ICON) principles (Goldman et al., 2021, https://doi.org/10.1029/2021ea002099) in Volcanology, Geochemistry, Petrology (VGP), discussion on opportunities challenges adopting them. VGP encompasses broad field that addresses volcanic, magmatic, hydrothermal, geomicrobial systems; process investigations span physical, geochemical biological realms, including planetary geology; one extensively supported by state-of-the-art research facilities. We suggest an open, inclusive, collaborative evolving model international coordinated network critical to answering most pressing VGP. In this piece, we begin discuss elements of, to, path forward developing such model. For team, ICON means collaboration, equitable access data for entire scientific community, forging partnerships potentially contribute more innovative ways coordinating sharing research. It also bringing equity science, implementing effective measures which consider funding, analytical equipment, resources, mentors. More importantly, us having important conversations around what value advancement perhaps exploring outside idea meritocracy evaluating individual traits can science has traditionally been considered norm.

Midocean Ridge Geochemistry and Petrology

The most volcanically active regions of our planet are concentrated along the axes of the globe, encircling midocean ridges. These undersea mountain ranges, and most of the oceanic crust, result from the complex interplay between magmatic (i.e., eruptions of lavas on the surface and intrusion of magma at depth) and tectonic (i.e., faulting, thrusting, and rifting of the solid portions of the ou...

Petrology and geochemistry of lavas

“This continuity disappears, however, if one considers individual parts of the [Central American] chain and examines separate groups of volcanoes within a restricted volcanic field. It then becomes apparent that the continuity of the province as a whole is the result of grouping excessively large segments of the chain.” A.R. McBirney: Compositional variations in Cenozoic calcalkaline suites of ...

Petrology and Geochemistry of the Nwa 3368 Eucrite

Introduction: A considerable amount of debate exists on the petrogenesis of eucrites, basaltic meteorites believed to have originated on the asteroid 4 Vesta [1]. One school of thought, developed by Stolper [2], suggests that most eucrites are primary partial melts of chondritic material, while another by Mason [3] suggests that eucrites are residual liquids that resulted from fractional crysta...

Petrology and geochemistry of whole rock of Shahdad meteorites

In this study, meteorite pieces, with total weight of 259 grams, have been studied which is not listed in the world bulletin of meteorites. In order to classify these samples, after preparing microscopic thin sections and performing accurate petrography, using geochemical data of the major elements and trace elements of whole rock, obtained from XRF and ICPMS methods in Zarazma company’s labora...
